Things are looking good for CycleFest 2010 (May 21-23).  If you haven't checked out the latest information, you should really do so (you really don't want to miss out on knowing how to join us for a Piero's breakfast).  It's going to be a great weekend!  What I need from you all is to register and promote, promote, promote!  If you haven't paid your NEABC dues, this is a great time to do that - you're yearly membership is included with registration, plus a shirt  and a weekend of fun bike events.  If you know someone who's been reluctant to get out and ride because they don't know how to get going - this event is perfect for them!!  But, it's also going to be a great time for those of you who already ride.... there's always something new to learn, and ride to work day will be a blast!  The website has all the up-to-date information, so feel free to spread it around.

Also, on May 21st, we are offering free a Youth Cycling Instructor Course (see the News page for details).  It's a free course that provides you with the skills and resourses to host bike rodeos and teach kids bike safety and riding skills.

We discussed a lot of great ideas about how to  promote cycling including recruiting businesses to become Bike-Friendly through various programs, we also tossed around some great ideas to grow as an organization.  This year, we'll be pushing to develop our membership and laying the foundations for growth and becoming a more self-sustaining organization.

Other upcoming bike-related events:

May 1st: Gearhead Sprint Triathlon
May 8th: Sunken Lands Spring Planting Ride
May 15th: Iron Caboose

Happy Riding!
Sally

**** Oh, one ...umm two last things.  Keep up with your miles this month and how many days you ride to work (or ride just to run errands or to class for those of you like me that don't go to an office everyday).  There will be a fancy new pair of cycling glasses for whoever has the most miles and for whoever has the most days of ditching their car between now and Ride to Work Day.  You're on the honor system, cause this is just for fun.

We lined up some great sponsors during the past month for May’s events. A huge Thank You to Gearhead Outfitters and St. Bernard’s Sports Medicine for their contributions!! We’ve also confirmed product sponsors including Kuat Racks and Tifosi Sunglasses.

If you have an interest in working with kids and bikes or know someone who does, please put Friday, May 21st on your calendar (or pass this info on). Tom Ezell, LCI will be coming in to hold a Youth Instructor Certification course at 4:00 PM at Craighead Forest. This is an excellent opportunity! The course takes a couple of hours and there is no cost to you. If you can attend, please let me know so we can plan for enough people.

February Update

While there hasn't been much riding this month - thanks Mother Nature! - there has been plenty of planning going on for spring rides! The February NEABC meeting was spent gearing up for our May Bike Month events. CycleFest2010 (May 21st - 23rd) promises to be an excellent event that you will not want to miss! There will be something for everyone - from those of you who ride often, to those of you who have bikes hanging in the garage patiently waiting to be ridden, to the kiddos. NEABC will also be hosting a Youth Instructor Certification course on May 21st.  If you or your organization would like to know how to put on a bicycle rodeo and teach children how to ride safely, this course would be perfect for you. If you're interested, please let us know through the contact page.
Registration for CycleFest is now open, so head over and check out the details!

Speaking of spring rides, there will be plenty to do on two wheels here in Northeast Arkansas. While you’re putting CycleFest on your calendar, you will also want to schedule these events…
